Portugal, 30th Sep 2024 - Portugal – On February 7, 2017, Antonio’s life changed forever after a violent assault left him blind in his left eye and unable to work. This single, tragic event has caused years of emotional and physical pain, compounded by the loss of his livelihood. Today, Antonio, a 55-year-old husband and father of two, is reaching out for help to rebuild his life and secure a future for his family.
Antonio was violently attacked by an unknown assailant in the street, resulting in severe trauma to his left eye. After multiple surgeries and a long hospital stay, Antonio now relies on a prosthetic eye, which requires daily cleaning and maintenance. Despite his best efforts, the prosthetic causes continuous discomfort.
Before this tragedy, Antonio worked as a construction worker, a trade that became impossible after losing 20% of his peripheral vision. He is now unable to continue the job that once supported his family, as he also suffers from additional health complications, including a shoulder injury requiring surgery.
In addition to this personal tragedy, Antonio and his family have suffered immensely due to the genocide in their region, which took away family members, friends, and the stability he had worked so hard to build.
